How Long Does a Mesh Banner Last Outside?
Expect a full season on a job-site fence and a year or more on a storefront fence from a 10 oz mesh banner with a UV print; taken down for the winter it goes longer. The print is waterproof and UV safe. What fails first on cheap banners is the finishing, and the stitched hems and brass grommets every two feet are included on ours. A replacement 4′ × 8′ is $129, shipped free.
What actually wears a banner out
Not the sun, in the first year. It is load. A banner tied by its corners alone flaps, and every flap yanks four grommets; the corners tear within weeks. A banner tied through every grommet shares the load across sixteen or more points and barely moves. The second killer is abrasion: a banner tied loose rubs the fence wire on every gust and wears a line through the print along each wire.
How to get a second season
Use every grommet, snug but not stretched. Take it down for the off-season and store it rolled, print side out, somewhere dry. Hose off road grime before it bakes in. If a grommet tears, a sail-repair patch or a short length of webbing through the hem saves the banner.
Mesh versus vinyl outdoors
Both prints last about the same in the sun. The difference is what the wind does: solid vinyl catches it and the finishing fails first; mesh lets about a third of it through and the same hems and grommets last far longer in the same spot. On an open fence, mesh simply outlives vinyl.
When to replace instead of re-hang
When the phone number has faded enough that you squint at it from the sidewalk, or when a corner has torn past the hem. At $129 for a 4′ × 8′ a new banner costs less than a morning of the crew’s time, and the artwork is already on file with us.

When another printer will cost you less
- You want it to last five years. No banner does. An aluminum or coroplast sign on posts from a sign shop is the right product.
- It hangs in salt spray or a desert at 110°F. Expect the short end of every range above, whoever prints it.
- You hang a new message every month. Vinyl is cheaper per banner for a wall; for a fence, keep the mesh and swap the message with a second banner.
