What a local race actually needs

A school board, council or township race runs on name recognition, and nothing buys recognition per dollar like a yard sign in a supporter's lawn. The number that matters is not how many you print, it is how many you have homes for: a sign in a box in the garage on election day is the most expensive sign you bought. Count the supporters who have said yes, add a third for the ones who will, and order that.

Every sign here is 24" x 18" on 4mm white coroplast, printed direct UV in full colour, with one steel H-stake per sign in the price. Single-sided reads from the road on one side; double-sided is worth the extra on corner lots and medians where cars come from both directions. Most local campaigns order double-sided for the busy corners and single-sided for everything else, as two orders.

Prices with stakes and shipping: 25 for $219, 50 for $399, 100 for $749, 250 for $1,749 single-sided; double-sided $279, $499, $929 and $2,149. Ten signs are $95 if you are testing a design. Above 250 we quote by email the same day, and we will tell you straight if a high-volume campaign printer will beat us — above a few hundred, one usually will.

Questions from campaigns

When do I need to order for November 3?

Proof back within 2-4 business hours, production the next business day after you approve, then free FedEx Ground — usually two business days, not guaranteed. Order by Friday October 23 and you are comfortable. Order by Wednesday October 28 and it will very likely still make it; later than that, email us before you pay and we will be honest about it. The clock starts when you approve the proof, so approve it the day it arrives.

Do I need a "Paid for by" disclaimer on the sign?

Usually, yes. Federal candidates need the FEC disclaimer on yard signs, and most states and many counties have their own rule for state and local races — some require the treasurer's name, some the committee address. We print exactly what you approve on the proof, so put the line on your artwork or tell us the wording and we will set it small along the bottom edge. Checking which rule applies to your race is on you; we are printers, not election lawyers.

Can you add a union bug?

No. Our signs are produced at non-union facilities, so we cannot print a union label and will not fake one. If your campaign or your endorsements require a union bug, we are not the right printer for that order and we would rather say so now than after you have paid.

Single-sided or double-sided?

Single-sided for a lawn facing the street: cars see one side. Double-sided for a corner lot, a median, or anywhere traffic comes from two directions. Double-sided is $60 more per 25 and $180 more per 100. Most campaigns split the order — a small double-sided batch for the busy corners, the rest single. Longer answer.

Can I get a few first to check the colour?

Yes — 10 signs are $95 and the proof you approve is what prints, so the colour on the ten is the colour on the two hundred. Many campaigns order ten for the kickoff and the big batch two weeks later once the yes-list has filled in.

What size is a political yard sign?

24" x 18" is the standard and what almost every campaign uses; it reads from a car at 30 feet with 4-inch letters. 18" x 24" tall is the same price if the design is vertical. Bigger 4x8 site signs for a fence or a supporter's field are quoted by email.
