For a school board, city council or county commission race, most voters will never see an ad, read a mailer, or meet the candidate. They will see the sign — on the way to work, twice a day, for six weeks. Repetition of a name is the entire mechanism. The design job is to make the name the only thing on the sign.

That means: the candidate’s last name at the largest size the sign allows, the office in a single line below it, and the disclaimer (which your state almost certainly requires) at the bottom in legible but small type. Questions we get from campaign managers

What has to be on a political sign legally?

Almost every state requires a "paid for by" disclaimer identifying the committee. The exact wording, size and placement vary by state and sometimes by race. Your state election board publishes it; put it in the notes on your proof request and we will set it at the required size. We are printers, not lawyers, so verify the rule for your race.

Single or double-sided?

Double-sided, for campaigns. Signs go on corners and in medians where they are seen from both directions, and the marginal cost is about $1.80 a sign at 100. Full breakdown.

How fast can I get 100 signs?

Proof in 2–4 business hours, approve it, and it ships free by FedEx Ground. Order Monday, approve Monday, and in most of the country they land Wednesday or Thursday. More on timing.

Can I get a union bug?

Ask on your proof request and we will confirm availability for your run before you pay. Not every job qualifies, so we would rather tell you up front.

Where am I allowed to place them?

Rules are local: most cities ban signs in the public right-of-way (the strip between the sidewalk and the road) and set a window before and after the election. Private yards with the owner’s permission are almost always fine. Check your city clerk’s page — it is usually one paragraph.
