Signs for Mobile Detailing

You work in driveways. Use the driveway.

A detailed car in front of the house is the best advertisement your business will ever run. Signs, van magnets and stickers, all from one logo and one proof.

A designer proofs your artwork within 2–4 hours and nothing prints until you approve it.

Three surfaces, three jobs

Mobile detailing is a referral business almost entirely, and referrals come from people seeing the work. You spend two to four hours in a visible driveway making a car look better than anything else on the street. A small sign at the kerb while you work does more than any amount of social posting, because it reaches exactly the people who live next to somebody who just paid for detailing.

The van is the second surface. Magnets rather than a wrap, at least at first: $75 for a pair against four figures for vinyl, they come off for the weekend, and you can change them when your branding settles down. Most detailers reprint their logo at least once in the first two years, which is an expensive mistake to make on a wrap.

The third is the car itself, or rather what you leave with the owner. A small vinyl sticker on the inside of the fuel door or a card in the cupholder keeps your number where they will find it when the car needs doing again in three months. 100 3x3 stickers cost $99 and last longer than any card.

The stickers are the unexpected one. Detailers who hand one to every customer report them turning up on toolboxes, laptops and water bottles months later, which is more mileage than a business card ever gets.

Questions we get from mobile detailers

Magnets or a full van wrap?
Magnets first. A wrap costs four figures and locks in a logo you may well change; a pair of magnets costs $75, comes off for the weekend, and can be replaced for the price of a tank of fuel when your branding settles. Detailers who go straight to a wrap in year one usually regret the design by year two.
Will a magnet hold at highway speed?
A 30 mil magnet on clean, flat, unpainted-over steel holds fine at normal speeds. Check it before a long motorway run, make sure the panel and the magnet are both dry and free of grit, and press from the centre outwards so there is no air pocket at the edge for wind to catch. Aluminium and composite panels will not hold a magnet at all.
Can I put my Instagram on the sign instead of a phone number?
You can, and for detailing it is more defensible than for most trades because the work is visual and people do want to see a gallery. But put both. A handle is easy to mistype from a moving car; a phone number can be dialled from memory at the next traffic light.
What size stickers should I order?
3x3 is the useful default — big enough to read a logo and a number, small enough that somebody will actually stick it on a toolbox. 2x2 is better if you want people to put it on a phone or a laptop lid. We print five square-cut sizes from 2x2 to 4x4 with a minimum of 50. Full sticker sizes and prices.
