Write-In Campaign Signs

Write-in signs that teach voters the spelling.

Your name is not on the ballot, so the sign has to show voters exactly what to write. Full color, printed edge to edge, a steel stake in every sign and free FedEx Ground.

A designer proofs your artwork within 2–4 hours and nothing prints until you approve it.

A write-in sign has a second job

Every other candidate’s name is printed on the ballot. Yours is not, so your sign has to do something no other yard sign does: show voters exactly what to write. That means the words WRITE IN as visible as the name, the name spelled the way it has to be written, and the office directly beneath it.

The layout that works: a bright band across the top that says WRITE IN, your full name large in the middle, the office below. Some campaigns hand out a card with a drawing of the write-in line and the name written on it, so voters recognize the spot in the booth. Full color makes the band impossible to miss at 30 miles an hour.

Because there is no ballot line doing the work, write-in campaigns run on repetition — more signs, on more corners, for longer. Campaign pricing takes 10% off the signs at 50 and above: $359 for 50, $449 double sided. Before you order, check the filing rule in the questions below.

Questions from write-in candidates

What should a write-in sign say?
Three things: your name exactly as it must be written, the words WRITE IN, and the office. Nothing else competes. If the spelling is unusual, set it in capitals with clear spacing — the sign is a spelling lesson as much as an ad.
Do I have to register as a write-in candidate?
In many states, yes: write-in votes are only counted for candidates who filed a declaration of write-in candidacy by a deadline, which can be weeks before Election Day. Rules vary by state and by office, so confirm with your county election office before you spend money on signs. We are printers, not election lawyers.
Do misspelled write-in votes count?
It depends on the state. Many count a vote when the voter’s intent is clear; some are stricter. Teaching one spelling on every sign is the cheapest insurance there is.
Do I need a "Paid for by" line?
Usually, yes. Federal candidates need the FEC disclaimer on yard signs, and most states and many counties have their own rule for state and local races — some require the treasurer’s name, some the committee address. We print exactly what you approve on the proof, so put the line on your artwork or tell us the wording and we will set it small along the bottom edge. Checking which rule applies to your race is on you; we are printers, not election lawyers. More on the disclaimer.
How fast can I get them?
A proof within 2–4 business hours, production the next business day after you approve it, then free FedEx Ground — usually two business days, not guaranteed. Order by Friday, October 23 and you are comfortable for Tuesday, November 3. Order by Wednesday, October 28 and it will very likely still make it; later than that, email us before you pay and we will be honest about it. The clock starts when you approve the proof, so approve it the day it arrives.

Ready when you are, and nothing prints until you say so.
