People treat these as the same purchase with a size difference. They are not. They do different jobs and they reach people at different moments.
The distinction that matters
| Business card | Postcard | |
|---|---|---|
| Reaches | Someone you are talking to | Someone who was not home |
| Lives in | A wallet, a drawer, a phone case | A door, a counter, a folder, a fridge |
| Says | Who you are and how to reach you | What you just did and why to call now |
| Space for a photo | Not really | Yes — and it should have one |
| 500 pieces | $49 | $119 |
Print business cards if…
- You meet people. Estimates, supply houses, referrals, the neighbour who walks over.
- You need something that survives in a wallet for six months.
- Crew members need their own name and number on something.
Print postcards if…
- You want to reach people you have not met — the street you just worked on.
- The work itself is the sales pitch and you need room for a photo.
- You have an offer with a season or a deadline attached.
Business cards are a commodity, and we will say so
Business cards have been a race to the bottom for twenty years and the big consumer printers advertise 500 for well under thirty dollars on thin stock. If price is the only thing you care about, they will beat us and you should let them.
What you get here instead: 16pt rather than 14pt, both sides in the price, a person who lays it out and sends a proof, and no upsell path from a low headline number to a real one at checkout. That is worth something on a card people judge you by, and nothing at all if you just need paper.
Where they actually pay off: together
The reason to buy both from one place is not convenience, it is consistency. Somebody sees the sign in their neighbour's yard on Monday, the magnet on your truck on Tuesday, and the card on their door on Wednesday. That is three impressions from one job — but only if all three look like the same company.
Order them on the same artwork and one proof covers everything. The Contractor Kit does the signs and magnets; postcards and matching cards drop straight in.
What to put on each
| Business card front | Postcard front |
|---|---|
| Name, trade, phone number | What you just did, big |
| Logo | A photo of the real finished job |
| Nothing else | Phone number, second biggest |
Both backs are printed at the same price. Use them: licence numbers, service list, review quote, QR code, or an offer with a date on it.
